MARENCE is a Latvian skincare brand that makes face, body and hair care for women and men. Many of its products contain freshwater green mud extract. The products are made in Ķekava, and the company, SIA MARENCE, was registered in 2017.
Freshwater green mud, or sapropel, is a fine-grained sediment that builds up on lake beds over thousands of years. It forms from the remains of water plants, plankton and other aquatic life, together with mineral particles. The mud MARENCE uses is naturally green.
MARENCE uses freshwater green mud from a lake in Latvia. The lake is in Rāzna National Park in Latgale.
No. Mud extract is in many MARENCE products, but not in every one. The mud and products made from it have their own section in the shop, Freshwater Mud Products.
Mud extract is made with an oil, water or alcohol base, chosen separately for each formula.
The difference is in the ingredients. The Freshwater Mud Products section offers mud in 500 g and 1 kg jars, mud applications and a 100 g mud face mask. In cosmetics that contain mud extract, the extract is one ingredient in the formula.
At the moment, MARENCE products are sold only in the online shop at marence.com. The MARENCE salon and shop in Liepāja is no longer open.
MARENCE cosmetics are notified through the EU Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP), as required by EU regulation. Notification is compulsory for all cosmetics in the EU and is not a quality mark. In 2023, a freshwater green mud sample was tested for skin tolerance on 25 volunteers under a dermatologist’s supervision; no irritation was found. The test applies to MARENCE mud (500 g and 1 kg) and the mud face mask (100 g), not to other products, including the mud applications. MARENCE products are not certified as organic, vegan or eco cosmetics.
In the EU, animal testing of cosmetic products and their ingredients for the purposes of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 (Article 18) is prohibited, and cosmetics tested on animals for those purposes may not be sold in the EU. Testing required by other laws (for example, on chemical safety) is not covered by this Regulation.
USE AND INGREDIENTS
For the face, warm the mud in a water bath to 37-38 °C, apply a 2-4 mm layer and leave it on for 8-10 minutes, once or twice a week. For the hands, apply a 1-2 mm layer and leave it on for 15-30 minutes. Allow 30-40 minutes for the legs and about 30 minutes for the hair. The 100 g mud face mask has its own instructions on the label.
There is no single order. It depends on which face products you combine. How and when to use a face product is explained on its product page, and for your routine we can suggest an order by email or phone.
Use a body scrub once a week.
There is no separate MARENCE line for teenagers. We can talk through which product to choose for a teenager’s skin in a consultation.
This is best decided with your doctor. Show them the full ingredient list of the product you have chosen.
Check the ingredient list on the packaging for anything you are allergic to. The names there follow INCI, the international naming system for cosmetic ingredients. If you do not have the packaging yet, email [email protected] and we will send you the list. With sensitive skin, ask a dermatologist about a new product first.

Anyone visiting the website can review a product, whether or not they have bought it. We read every review before it goes live. We do not publish spam or advertising, and the star rating does not affect whether a review appears.
DELIVERY
When your parcel reaches an Omniva or DPD parcel locker, the carrier sends the recipient a message with the code that opens it. To check its status, or if it is delayed, contact us at [email protected] with your order number.
