Our story
The MARENCE story
Look at the Latvian countryside and you see fragrant pines and silvery grasses, gentle rivers and blue lakes, moss and sand. At MARENCE, we look deeper.
We use the freshwater green mud that has built up, layer by layer, at the bottom of one of those lakes. The lake is in Rāzna National Park in Latgale.

How MARENCE products are made
Made in Ķekava
Every product is made, filled and labelled on one site.
Mixing and checks
Our cosmetics are mixed under vacuum using specialised equipment. The vacuum removes air bubbles, which helps make the texture even and the product stable. Before filling, every batch is checked for physicochemical (pH, density) and sensory (appearance, scent) parameters.
Formulas
The chief technologist, a formulation chemist, develops our formulas. The team tries out samples of new products.
Raw material
What is freshwater green mud?
Freshwater green mud, also called sapropel, is a fine sediment that forms at the bottom of lakes from the remains of plankton, water plants and other aquatic life, mixed with mineral particles. On average, the sediment layer grows by 0.1-6.6 mm a year, and the rate varies with the lake and the climate. MARENCE mud is naturally green and is used as a mask and in mud applications.

- Mud extract
- Many MARENCE products contain freshwater green mud extract.
- Dermatological test
- In 2023, MARENCE freshwater green mud and the mud face mask were patch-tested under a dermatologist’s supervision. No irritation was found.
- Packaging
- Some MARENCE tubes are made of plastic derived from sugar cane.
